Abstract

This study aimed to identify and analyze scientific publications on cognitive-behavioral interventions in patients with HIV / AIDS. The authors conducted a survey of the literature in PubMed, SciELO and PePSIC databases. The keyword/uniterms combinations for the search of articles were: cognitive-behavioral intervention and AIDS; cognitive-behavioral intervention and HIV; intervenção cognitivo-comportamental and AIDS; intervenção cognitivo-comportamental and HIV. The inclusion criteria were: empirical studies of cognitive-behavioral interventions; sample of HIV-positive patients; articles published between 2008 and 2012. Fifteen articles, 14 of them published in English were selected. It was found that, in general, the reported results showed that interventions were effective to provide improvement in emotional and behavioral variables. It is concluded that cognitive-behavioral approach constitutes a theoretical and methodological orientation strategy of intervention that can contribute to an adaptive coping with multiple demands adjustment arising from living with an even stigmatized and chronic disease as AIDS.
