Abstract

Este ensaio teórico discute a assexualidade como uma dimensão legítima da orientação e da diversidade sexual humana e analisa os impactos psicossociais associados à invisibilização e patologização dessa orientação. Por meio de uma reflexão teórica-conceitual analítico-comportamental, são apresentados aspectos históricos, conceituais e identitários da assexualidade, bem como mitos e estigmas que contribuem para sua patologização. A assexualidade é definida como uma orientação sexual na qual a pessoa não experimenta atração sexual por outras pessoas, ou a vivência de forma reduzida, rara ou condicional. Em seguida, analisa-se o impacto do estresse de minoria, da invisibilidade social e das microagressões na saúde mental de pessoas assexuais, destacando o papel das contingências culturais vigentes sobre sexualidade nos processos de estigmatização, coerção social e sofrimento psicológico. Por fim, discutem-se as contribuições clínicas das terapias comportamentais contextuais para práticas clínicas éticas e culturalmente competentes com essa população. Argumenta-se que o sofrimento associado à assexualidade decorre principalmente de processos sociais de invalidação e exclusão, evidenciando a necessidade de reconhecimento, validação e despatologização das pessoas assexuais.
